Preetam Koilpillai’s Black Coffee Productions goes international

Yes. Bangalore lad Preetam Koilpillai has gone international. It’s his group’s first international outing and he is mighty nervous and excited at the same time. Black Coffee Productions will be part of Fitaz 2008, the biennial International Theatre Festival in La Paz, Bolivia that is to be held from April 9th to April 20th. The festival theme this year is “multiculturalism and peace”.

Preetam’s play is multilingual – take that to mean, Bengali, Hindi and English. The piece draws elements from his earlier production of The Undertaker, and also uses material developed from various personal experiences of alienation. Drawing from his earlier production, The Undertaker, he has taken it a step further and devised a play that talks about alienation in an international context. There’s going to be live music using a piano and a bucket by Preetam ofcourse! As he puts it oh-so-succintly: “The end result is an energetic juxtaposition of the extrovert against the introverted, the sutradhar against the Indian immigrant and the bucket against the piano, all combining to tell, what will hopefully be, an engaging tale.”

Best of luck, Preetam! May the power be with you!
